The Yankees Hire Brad Ausmus as New Bench Coach

The New York Yankees made an important announcement on Tuesday, revealing that they have hired Brad Ausmus as the new bench coach for manager Aaron Boone. This decision comes after Carlos Mendoza left the position to manage the New York Mets. Ausmus, a former manager for the Detroit Tigers and the Los Angeles Angels, brings a wealth of experience to the team.

Before joining the Yankees, Ausmus managed the Detroit Tigers from 2014 to 2017 and the Los Angeles Angels in 2019. In his first season with the Tigers, he led the team to an impressive 90-72 record and secured the AL Central title. However, the team’s postseason run was cut short when they were swept by the Baltimore Orioles in the Division Series.

Ausmus also spent the 2022 season as the bench coach for the Oakland Athletics under manager Bob Melvin. This experience will undoubtedly contribute to his ability to assist Aaron Boone in his role as the Yankees’ bench coach.

Brad Ausmus, 54, began his professional career with the Yankees organization after being selected in the 48th round of the 1987 amateur draft. He attended Dartmouth College while still in the minor leagues and eventually made his major league debut on July 28, 1993, for the San Diego Padres.

Throughout his playing career, Ausmus showcased his talent on multiple teams, including the Padres, Detroit Tigers, and Houston Astros. He had a respectable batting average of .251 and hit 80 home runs while driving in 607 runs over the course of 18 seasons. Ausmus’ reputation as a catcher and his strong defensive skills earned him recognition as one of the top catchers of his era.

As Brad Ausmus transitions into his new role as bench coach, he joins a coaching staff that has high expectations. The Yankees, known for their rich history and loyal fan base, are determined to bounce back after a disappointing season.

The team finished the 2022 season with a record of 82-80, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016. The addition of Ausmus to the coaching staff demonstrates the Yankees’ commitment to making the necessary changes to return to their winning ways.

With Brad Ausmus now on board as bench coach, the Yankees have strengthened their coaching staff and added valuable experience to their ranks. It will be interesting to see how Ausmus, alongside manager Aaron Boone, strategizes and guides the team in the upcoming season.

As the Yankees aim for another shot at postseason success, the bench coach plays a crucial role in supporting the manager and working closely with the players. With Ausmus’ impressive track record and knowledge of the game, Yankees fans can look forward to a promising future.

The hiring of Brad Ausmus as the new bench coach for the New York Yankees is a significant move for the team. His previous managerial experience, playing career, and expertise make him well-suited to contribute to the success of the organization. With Ausmus on board, the Yankees are positioning themselves for a strong comeback in the upcoming season.
