Former UFC fighter and television analyst, Paul Felder, has surprised many by re-enrolling in the USADA drug-testing pool. This decision, however, does not necessarily mean that Felder will make a comeback to the octagon. The news of Felder’s re-entry into the testing program came after a recent USADA test, which was then posted on the agency’s website on Wednesday. This signifies that the former lightweight fighter would be eligible to compete in the UFC again in six months. However, with the UFC and USADA parting ways in 2024, the future regulations regarding eligibility remain uncertain.
Back in May 2021, Felder took the mixed martial arts world by surprise when he announced his retirement during a UFC broadcast. Since his last fight in November 2020, where he suffered a short-notice loss to Rafael dos Anjos, Felder has not stepped back into the ring. Despite this, the 39-year-old athlete clarified in an ESPN interview that his decision to re-enter the USADA pool does not necessarily mean he will fight again.

Felder shared that the emotional retirement of fellow fighter “The Korean Zombie,” Chan Sung Jung, in August played a significant role in his thought process. Witnessing Jung’s farewell to the sport influenced Felder to keep the door open for a potential return to the octagon, which would only be possible if he maintained his status in the USADA pool. Felder described his re-enrollment as a precautionary measure, a “just-in-case” move to ensure he could explore future opportunities if the right circumstances arise.
Throughout his six-year journey with the UFC, Felder cultivated a reputation for being an exhilarating fighter unafraid of standing toe-to-toe with his opponents. Representing his hometown of Philadelphia, Felder battled adversity and showcased his resilience both inside and outside the octagon.
