The Rise of Darren Till in Boxing

Darren Till, the former UFC welterweight title contender, is set to embark on a new journey in the world of boxing. Till will be making his professional boxing debut against former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The fight is scheduled for six rounds and will take place on the undercard of the highly anticipated Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson event on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This marks a significant transition for Till, who has enjoyed a successful MMA career with an overall record of 18-5-1.

Having started his MMA career with an impressive record of 17-0-1, Till faced setbacks in his later fights, including losses to top fighters like Jorge Masvidal, Robert Whittaker, and current UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis. His defeat to du Plessis in December 2022 was his last fight in the Octagon, leading to speculation about his future plans. While there were rumors of Till potentially venturing into Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships to face Mike Perry, he ultimately decided to pursue a career in professional boxing.

Till’s opponent, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., comes from a prestigious boxing lineage as the son of legendary Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Despite being the first Mexican fighter to win the WBC middleweight title, Chavez Jr. struggled to step out of his father’s shadow. His career has been marred by losses to notable opponents like Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs, raising concerns about his commitment to the sport. With a record of 53-6-1 and 34 KOs, Chavez Jr. is determined to reclaim his status as a top contender in boxing.

In addition to the Till-Chavez Jr. bout, the Paul-Tyson card will feature an exciting lightweight battle between rising prospects Ashton “H2O” Sylve and Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield. Sylve, the ESPN Ringside 2022 Prospect of the Year, holds a record of 11-0 with 9 KOs and is touted as a future star in boxing. On the other hand, Schofield, with a record of 17-0 and 12 KOs, has quickly risen through the ranks since his professional debut in 2020. Both fighters are eager to make a statement and climb the ranks in the competitive lightweight division.

As Darren Till prepares for his boxing debut against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., he is determined to showcase his skills and prove himself in a new sport. With a background in MMA and a strong competitive spirit, Till is confident in his ability to succeed in the boxing world. The bout on July 20 will not only be a test of Till’s boxing prowess but also a chance for him to make a bold statement and carve out a new path in his athletic career. As he steps into the ring with Chavez Jr., Till will have the opportunity to prove that he belongs among the elite in the sport of boxing.
