The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit in Mexico proved to be a challenging track for Jaguar’s Formula E drivers. While the team showed strong pace early on in the race, they soon encountered obstacles that hindered their performance. Mitch Evans, the Jaguar driver, struggled with a steering issue that affected his pace and balance throughout the race. As a result, he finished more than seven seconds behind the leader, Maximilian Guenther.
Evans revealed that the steering weight became extremely heavy, making it difficult for him to turn the wheel and causing him to lock up at corners. This bizarre feeling was something he had never experienced before. While the team plans to investigate the steering rack, Evans acknowledged that it could potentially be a setup issue that they overlooked.
Despite his frustrations, Evans accepted his fifth-place finish, acknowledging that it could have been worse. However, given the lack of overtaking opportunities during the race, he believed that securing a fourth-place finish would have been the best he could have achieved.
Meanwhile, Evans’ teammate and fellow Kiwi, Nick Cassidy, had a debut to remember with Jaguar. He finished third in the race, one position higher than his starting position. However, like Evans, Cassidy faced a setback due to a penalty. Both Jaguar drivers were demoted one position on the starting grid due to a red flag infraction during practice.
Cassidy believed that the penalty had a significant impact on his ability to fight for the win. Nonetheless, he expressed satisfaction with his performance and saw it as a promising start to his time with Jaguar. He described it as his most complete day in Formula E and a positive beginning of his journey with the team.
While the Jaguar team faced challenges on the track, their competitors on the Porsche team, including race winner Pascal Wehrlein, were also under scrutiny. Wehrlein is currently being investigated for a technical infringement. The outcome of this investigation could potentially impact the final race results and standings.
Overall, the Mexican race was a frustrating experience for the Jaguar team. Both drivers encountered setbacks that affected their performance and hindered their chances of securing higher positions. However, they remained optimistic about future races and focused on addressing the issues they encountered.
As the Formula E season continues, the Jaguar team will need to analyze and rectify the steering issue that plagued Evans. Additionally, they must address the penalty incurred by both drivers to ensure a fair and equal opportunity for success in upcoming races. With their talent and determination, there is no doubt that the Jaguar team will bounce back stronger in the next round of the championship.
