The Colorado Rockies have once again been hit with injuries as first baseman/designated hitter Kris Bryant and outfielder Sean Bouchard were placed on the 10-day injured list. This is just another setback for Bryant, who has already missed 31 games this season due to a low back strain. Now, he is dealing with a left rib contusion after making a twisting catch and colliding with the wall in foul territory during a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 32-year-old Bryant has found himself on the IL seven times since signing a lucrative contract with Colorado in 2022, limiting his playing time and overall impact on the team.
Uncertain Timetable for Return
Rockies manager Bud Black expressed his frustration with Bryant’s recurring injuries, highlighting the All-Star’s desire to stay healthy and contribute on the field. He emphasized the uncertain nature of Bryant’s recovery, hoping for a quick resolution to his current health issues. With only 24 games played this season and a batting average of .186, Bryant’s absence has been felt in the Rockies’ lineup, especially given his past success as the 2016 National League Most Valuable Player with the Chicago Cubs. The team is eager for Bryant’s return to the active roster to provide a much-needed boost to their performance.
Sean Bouchard’s Sprained Ankle
On the other hand, outfielder Sean Bouchard suffered a sprained right ankle while running out a sacrifice bunt in a game against the Reds. Bouchard has been batting .203 in 25 games this season, adding to the Rockies’ injury concerns. In response to these setbacks, the Rockies have called up shortstop/outfielder Greg Jones and first baseman Michael Toglia from Triple-A Albuquerque. Toglia, who has struggled with a .106 batting average in 15 games this season, will need to step up in Bryant’s absence. Jones, with a .235 average, 2 home runs, 5 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases in Triple-A, presents an intriguing option for the Rockies to bolster their lineup.
The Colorado Rockies are facing adversity with key players like Kris Bryant and Sean Bouchard sidelined due to injuries. The team’s hopes of a successful season rely on the quick recovery of Bryant and Bouchard, as well as the ability of their replacements to step up and make an impact. As the season progresses, the Rockies will need to navigate through these challenges and find ways to stay competitive in a tough division.
