Shakur Stevenson Retracts Retirement Announcement, Returns to Boxing

Just weeks after publicly declaring his retirement from boxing, 26-year-old Shakur Stevenson has taken to social media to announce his comeback. Stevenson initially stated that he was leaving the sport to focus on honing his skills and supporting the next generation of fighters. However, he seems to have had a change of heart. In a recent post, he expressed his eagerness to step back into the ring and declared that he is ready to face any opponent.

Shakur Stevenson is widely recognized as one of the most talented fighters in the sport. He has clinched world titles in three different weight divisions as a professional, and he even earned a Silver Medal in the 2012 Olympic Games as an amateur. With his impressive speed, slick moves, and a high ring IQ, Stevenson has proven himself to be a formidable opponent. However, his smooth style has also attracted some criticism from boxing fans.

In his last fight against relatively unknown boxer Edwin De La Santos in November, Stevenson’s performance left much to be desired. While he dominated the match, he himself acknowledged that his overall display was underwhelming. The criticism he received following that fight may have stung, but it evidently wasn’t enough to keep him away from the sport for long. In fact, he confessed his unwavering love for boxing and his inability to stay away from it.

Stevenson’s return opens up the possibility for some highly anticipated matchups. As a lightweight fighter, he shares the same weight class as prominent names like Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis, and Vasyl Lomachenko. These fights would undoubtedly be a great test for Stevenson, as he is not an easy opponent for any of them. However, it is worth noting that the young boxer still has a long career ahead of him and could potentially be avoided by some of these more established fighters.

Chasing Greatness

Despite the criticism he has faced and the mixed reactions to his retirement and subsequent return, Shakur Stevenson remains determined to chase greatness in the boxing ring. His decision to come out of retirement exhibits his passion for the sport and his unwavering dedication to perfecting his craft. It remains to be seen who Stevenson’s next opponent will be in June, but one thing is certain: he will undoubtedly continue to make waves in the world of boxing.
