The Seattle Seahawks are facing a setback on offense as they head into their game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Wide receiver DK Metcalf will not be playing due to a hip injury he sustained in the previous week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Metcalf had been playing through a rib injury since Week 2, but it was his hip injury that ultimately proved to be too problematic. Despite his efforts to tough it out, he was unable to recover in time for the game. This marks the first time Metcalf has missed a game since entering the NFL in 2019.
In addition to dealing with injuries, DK Metcalf has been in the news lately for his ongoing penalty issues. In the previous game against Cincinnati, he was penalized for unnecessary roughness and subsequently fined by the NFL. This brings his total penalties for the season to five and his career total to 10. Metcalf’s style of play has been a subject of scrutiny, but he remains steadfast in his approach, stating that he will not change the way he plays despite the penalties. Coach Pete Carroll even addressed the issue in a team meeting, highlighting Metcalf’s name at the top of a penalty leaderboard to emphasize the importance of addressing the problem.
Backup running back Zach Charbonnet will also be missing the game against the Cardinals due to a hamstring injury. Charbonnet, a second-round draft pick in April, did not participate in practice all week. His absence will be felt as he has contributed to the team’s running game this season. With Charbonnet out, DeeJay Dallas is expected to step in as Seattle’s second running back behind Kenneth Walker III.
The Seahawks are not only dealing with injuries on offense with Metcalf and Charbonnet, but they are also missing two starters on the offensive line. Center Evan Brown and right guard Phil Haynes are both sidelined due to injuries. This will require rookies Olu Oluwatimi and Anthony Bradford to step up and take their places on the line. The offensive line plays a crucial role in providing protection for the quarterback and creating running lanes for the backs, so their absence may pose some challenges for the Seahawks’ offense.
As the Seattle Seahawks prepare to face the Arizona Cardinals, they are navigating through a sea of injuries. The absence of key players like DK Metcalf and Zach Charbonnet will undoubtedly impact the team’s performance. Additionally, the ongoing penalty issues with Metcalf raise concerns about his discipline on the field. The Seahawks will have to rely on their depth and the abilities of backup players to step up and fill in for the injured starters. The offensive line will also need to find a way to overcome the absence of two key contributors. It will be a challenging game for the Seahawks, but they are determined to persevere and come out with a victory.
