Inter Miami Gets First Preseason Win Against Hong Kong XI

After a series of unsuccessful preseason matches, Inter Miami was finally able to secure a victory against a Hong Kong XI team with a scoreline of 4-1. However, one notable absence from the match was star player Lionel Messi, much to the disappointment of fans. Despite earlier reports suggesting that Messi would likely feature in the game, it was apparent that the Argentine player was struggling with a hamstring injury and was not included in Miami’s matchday squad.

In addition to Messi’s absence, Miami’s head coach, Gerardo “Tata” Martino, decided to leave the team’s three other former Barcelona stars, Sergio Busquets, Luis Suárez, and Jordi Alba, on the bench from the start. This unexpected decision raised eyebrows among fans and commentators alike, as they had anticipated witnessing Miami’s star-studded lineup in action.

On the other hand, Jørn Andersen, the coach of the Hong Kong XI team, admitted that his side’s lack of familiarity with each other was a significant disadvantage. Unlike Inter Miami, who benefited from daily training sessions and a solid preseason preparation, the Hong Kong XI players only had a single day of training together. Despite this setback, Andersen acknowledged that his team put up a good fight, especially in the first half.

A Competitive Show Game

The match proved to be an entertaining affair, with both teams displaying their skill and determination on the pitch. Miami took an early lead in the 40th minute when Robert Taylor, a standout player, curled a superb shot into the far corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

However, the Hong Kong XI quickly responded, as Henry Anier equalized just three minutes later, ensuring the teams entered halftime with a 1-1 scoreline. The second half saw Miami regain control of the game when Lawson Sunderland tapped in a goal from close range after a well-executed assist by Ryan Sailor.

Miami extended their lead to 3-1 after four minutes when Leonardo Campana’s shot deflected off a Hong Kong XI player, wrong-footing goalkeeper Yapp Hung Fai. The introduction of Busquets and Alba in the second half further solidified Miami’s dominance, as Sailor added a fourth goal with a glancing header that found the back of the net off the post.

Despite the previous lack of success in the preseason, Inter Miami can take solace in their first victory. The win against the Hong Kong XI team not only boosts players’ morale but also provides valuable experience and preparation for the upcoming season. It is important for the team to continue building chemistry, especially among their star-studded roster, to ensure a successful season moving forward.

While Lionel Messi’s absence may have disappointed many, Inter Miami’s victory against the Hong Kong XI team showcased their potential and determination. With further preparations and strategic decisions by coach Gerardo Martino, Miami can hope to build on this win and achieve success in the upcoming season.
