Climbing to the Top: Voisin Claims GB3 Championship Title

In a season filled with excitement and fierce competition, it was Samir Voisin who emerged victorious, claiming the GB3 Championship title. Going into the final weekend, Voisin held a 13-point lead over his closest rival, Joseph Loake, with Alex Dunne just four points adrift. The stage was set for a thrilling showdown at Donington Park.

Voisin wasted no time in asserting his dominance. Securing a double pole in qualifying, he converted one of those poles into a resounding victory in Saturday’s damp opening race. With exceptional skill and precision, Voisin crossed the finish line ahead of Matthew Rees, firmly establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with. Dunne, in third place, demonstrated his own prowess on the track.

Race two on Sunday morning brought with it an unexpected twist. With dry conditions favoring the drivers, the battle for supremacy intensified. Voisin found himself in the lead once again, but Dunne had other plans. Seizing the opportunity presented by a mistake from his rival, Dunne executed a masterful move at Melbourne hairpin, snatching the lead and ultimately securing his fifth victory of the season.

The Final Showdown

As the tension mounted, the championship hopes of both Dunne and Loake hung in the balance. Loake’s aspirations were dashed after finishing eighth, leaving Dunne with a daunting task of overturning a 22-point deficit in the decisive reversed-grid race. The stage was set for a breathtaking finale.

Both Voisin and Dunne started further down the grid in the finale, with everything to play for. They maneuvered their way through the pack, showcasing their skill and determination. A mid-race safety car period added another layer of complexity to the race, but it did not deter Dunne. He continued his charge, making up two more positions before a spin for Loake brought the proceedings to a halt.

Unfortunately, racing did not resume, with the safety car leading the way to the finish line. Hillspeed’s Gerrard Xie claimed a maiden victory behind the safety car, while Voisin’s twelfth-place finish was enough to secure the championship crown.

A Dream Come True

In the aftermath of his remarkable accomplishment, Voisin struggled to find words to express his emotions. “Really difficult to put into words,” he said. “It’s been a long old year. We’ve made the most of it. Every time we’ve bagged the points, we’ve done the most we can and we’ve been rewarded. We got better towards the end of the season and it’s brilliant to finish on a high. I’m over the moon.”

Voisin’s victory was the culmination of a season filled with impressive performances. After making a name for himself as a single-seater rookie in 2022, the 17-year-old entered the season as one of the favorites. In a highly competitive field, he showcased exceptional consistency, recording more podium finishes than any other driver. Voisin took the lead in the standings in July and held onto it until the very end. His remarkable achievement was further highlighted by winning the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup for the second year in a row, solidifying his status as the best qualifier.

Voisin’s success in the GB3 Championship has opened doors for further opportunities. Having recently participated in an FIA Formula 3 test with Carlin, the Anglo-Swiss driver will have the chance to do it all over again as a prize for his championship victory. The future looks exceptionally bright for Voisin as he continues to climb the motorsport ladder.

GB4 Championship: A Dominant Display

While the spotlight was on Voisin and the GB3 Championship, the GB4 Championship concluded earlier with a commanding performance from Tom Mills. With an astounding ten victories, Mills sealed the title with a round to spare at Brands Hatch. With Mills sitting out the final race, Cooper Webster of Evans GP secured second place with an impressive hat-trick of wins.

As the dust settles on an unforgettable season, Voisin stands tall as the crowned champion. His remarkable journey to the top serves as an inspiration to aspiring drivers all over the world, proving that with determination, skill, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, anything is possible in the world of motorsport.
