The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has recently announced reforms aimed at strengthening the 2025 calendar for men’s tennis tournaments. This includes upgrading the status of tournaments in Dallas, Munich, and Doha, Qatar from ATP 250 to ATP 500 events. These upgrades are part of the ATP’s One Vision strategy, which seeks to improve facilities and increase player compensation. Over a five-year period, a total of $51.7 million in additional player compensation will be provided.
In order to make room for the upgraded tournaments, the ATP will retire ATP 250 events in Atlanta, Newport, and Lyon after the upcoming season. This restructuring of the calendar aims to raise the bar for tennis and attract new investment in the game. ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi expressed his enthusiasm for the changes, stating that they will provide improved standards for players and enhance the overall experience for fans.
As part of the upgrades, the Dallas tournament will be relocated to a yet-to-be-named venue. This new location will provide better facilities for players and spectators alike. Similarly, the facilities in Munich will undergo a full-scale renovation to meet the standards of an ATP 500 event. Starting in 2025, each of the upgraded tournaments in Dallas, Munich, and Doha will offer approximately $2.8 million in prize money. This increase in prize money demonstrates the ATP’s commitment to rewarding players and attracting top talent to these events. With the upgrades to Dallas, Munich, and Doha, the number of ATP 500 events throughout the year will rise from 13 to 16.
