The Texas Rangers are gearing up for their opening day on Thursday, and World Series MVP Corey Seager and All-Star third baseman Josh Jung are expected to be in the lineup despite limited playing time in Cactus League games. Seager underwent surgery for a left sports hernia repair in January, while Jung had been dealing with a left calf injury. Both players only participated in one Cactus League game before the team left Arizona. Despite this, they were included in the lineup for an exhibition game against Boston and are anticipated to play in the final exhibition game against the Red Sox as well.
Manager Bruce Bochy expressed confidence in Seager and Jung’s ability to be ready for opening day. He mentioned that both players would benefit from a day off on Wednesday to rest and prepare for the regular season opener against the Chicago Cubs. Bochy is optimistic that the left side of the Rangers’ infield will be intact and ready to go on Thursday night.
Seager played an integral role in the Rangers’ postseason run last fall despite his hernia issue. He underwent surgery after the offseason to address the lingering problem and is now looking to continue his impressive performance from last year. With a batting average of .318 and multiple home runs in the World Series, Seager is a key player for the team.
Jung, a former first-round draft pick, has faced various setbacks due to injuries in the past. From a fractured foot to a torn labrum in his shoulder, Jung has had his fair share of challenges. However, he was having a breakout rookie season before his injuries and is determined to bounce back stronger this year. Despite a recent calf issue, Jung expressed readiness and eagerness to contribute to the team.
Newly acquired pitcher Michael Lorenzen is also in contention for a spot on the opening day roster. The right-hander, who had a successful season last year and threw a no-hitter, has been training independently while waiting to sign with a team. Bochy praised Lorenzen’s work ethic and physical condition, indicating that he is a strong candidate for the roster.
The Texas Rangers are facing the opening day with a mix of experienced players and promising talents. Despite injuries and limited playing time in spring training, the team’s key players are expected to be ready for the season opener. With Seager and Jung leading the lineup and newcomers like Lorenzen adding depth to the roster, the Rangers are poised for an exciting and competitive start to the season.
