Artemi Panarin’s impressive three-goal performance propelled the New York Rangers to a dominant 5-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Despite playing on the back end of consecutive games in Florida, the Rangers showed resilience and bounced back from a previous loss to the Panthers. Panarin, the star of the night, expressed his satisfaction with the win, stating, “Honestly, after this game, I feel great. I don’t know what can be better [than to] finish the [calendar] year like that.”
Not only did Panarin shine, but the Rangers also received significant contributions from Vincent Trocheck, Chris Kreider, and goaltender Igor Shesterkin. Trocheck’s goal and three assists, along with Kreider’s goal, added to the team’s success. Additionally, Alexis Lafrenière and Mika Zibanejad provided crucial assists, with the latter extending his point streak to an impressive 10 games.
The Rangers, supported by a strong contingent of New York fans in the stands for the second consecutive night in Florida, reached a significant milestone in the season. With this victory, they became the first team to reach 50 points this season, a feat that had not been achieved since the legendary 1993-94 season when the Rangers secured the Stanley Cup.

Andrei Vasilevskiy, the Lightning’s goaltender, made 16 saves but couldn’t prevent the Rangers from securing a resounding victory.
This defeat highlights Tampa Bay’s inconsistent performance this season. With only 39 points through 37 games, the Lightning find themselves one point behind their 2016-17 pace when they missed the playoffs, signaling potential trouble ahead.
Notably, Panarin’s hat trick showcased his individual brilliance and ability to rise to the occasion. Scoring two of his goals during the third period, including one on a power play, Panarin completed his sixth career hat trick. This exceptional performance was a stark contrast to his previous struggles against the Lightning, as he only had two goals in 17 previous games against them.
In addition to the Rangers’ victory, another notable milestone was reached during the game. Lightning captain Steven Stamkos played in his 1,037th game, tying Vincent Lecavalier’s team record for the most games played.
