Recovery Timeline for Injured Yankees Players

Giancarlo Stanton, the Yankees slugger, is on track to return to game action late next week after straining his left hamstring on June 22. This injury led him to be placed on the injured list for the eighth time in the past six years. Stanton expressed his goal of putting together a few more good days before making a decision by the end of next week. This is significant as he has already missed 21 games this season and has been out for 38% of the team’s games in the last five seasons.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone mentioned that Stanton’s return will depend on building his stamina over the coming days. While Boone is unsure if a rehab assignment will be required, he emphasized the importance of replicating game-like situations to speed up the recovery process. Stanton has been a crucial part of the Yankees’ lineup, playing in 69 of the team’s first 79 games and contributing with 18 home runs and 45 RBIs. The team has struggled in his absence, going 7-13.

In addition to Stanton, pitcher Clarke Schmidt and right-hander JT Brubaker are also working towards their return. Schmidt is expected to be back in late August or early September after straining his right lat in May. On the other hand, Brubaker will be sidelined for another three to four weeks due to an oblique muscle strain suffered in July. Both players are undergoing rehab assignments after previous injuries (Tommy John surgery in Brubaker’s case).

Scott Effross, who is also recovering from Tommy John surgery, is progressing through the minor league appearances at Triple-A Scranton. Boone expressed his desire to see Effross return to his pre-injury form before considering him for a potential call-up. The Yankees are closely monitoring the recovery timelines for all injured players to ensure they return to full strength before rejoining the team.

The Yankees are optimistic about the progress of their injured players, including Giancarlo Stanton and Clarke Schmidt, as they aim to bolster their roster for the remainder of the season. The team’s success may hinge on the timely and effective return of these key players, who will play a crucial role in the Yankees’ push for a playoff spot.
