In a thrilling 10-round match at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, Nate Diaz emerged victorious over Jorge Masvidal by majority decision. This win comes almost five years after Masvidal’s third-round TKO victory over Diaz in November 2019. Two out of three judges scored the bout in favor of Diaz, with scores of 98-92 and 97-93, while the third judge called it a draw at 95-95.
Following his triumph over Masvidal, Diaz wasted no time in calling out for two more rematches. He expressed his desire to take on Jake Paul, who defeated him in boxing last year, and UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards. Diaz’s ultimate goal is to become the best fighter in the world and reclaim a UFC title. He made his intentions clear by stating, “My main objective is to be the best fighter in the world, so I want to go back and get a UFC title. Leon Edwards, Jake Paul and anybody else, you’re dead.”
On the other hand, Masvidal, who retired from MMA in April but is contemplating a comeback, expressed his disagreement with the judges’ decision. He believes he hit the harder shots and felt he should have won the fight. Masvidal called for a third showdown against Diaz to break the 1-1 deadlock between them. He confidently stated, “We can do it again, we’re 1-1. We’ll find a place and do it again.”
Throughout the 175-pound fight, Diaz showcased his unmatched volume and relentless pace. Despite Masvidal landing the harder shots, Diaz’s durability and high output of strikes proved to be his key to victory. He even displayed moments of bravado by laughing and turning his back to Masvidal while continuing to exchange blows with the former MMA star. The event, co-promoted by Diaz’s Real Fight Inc. and Masvidal’s Gamebred Boxing, featured familiar names from the combat sports world, including former UFC champion Anthony Pettis, who faced Diaz’s longtime teammate Chris Avila.
