Evan Engram Looks to Elevate His Game in 2024

Tight end Evan Engram had an impressive first season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, setting career highs in catches and yards. In the following season, he went on to break the single-season franchise record with 114 catches in 2023. Now, Engram is aiming even higher for 2024 by focusing on becoming a more significant downfield threat. He aspires to make more big plays and touchdowns, joining the ranks of elite tight ends like Travis Kelce, George Kittle, and Sam LaPorta.

Despite Engram’s success as a volume player with the Jaguars, there are areas where he can enhance his performance. While he led the team in targets and catches over two seasons, his yards per reception and touchdown numbers lagged behind other top tight ends in the league. Engram acknowledges the need to improve his intermediate and deep-range game to make more explosive plays and increase his effectiveness as a red zone target.

Offensive coordinator Press Taylor recognizes Engram’s versatility and value in the Jaguars’ offense. He aims to get Engram more involved in the downfield passing game while utilizing his quickness and route-running skills to exploit matchups with opposing defenses. With the addition of new weapons like receiver Gabe Davis and Brian Thomas Jr., the Jaguars aim to create a more dynamic and vertical passing attack that will benefit Engram and his fellow offensive weapons.

Head coach Doug Pederson emphasizes the importance of creating opportunities for Engram to showcase his downfield abilities. He believes that with the right play calling and positioning, Engram can capitalize on his skill set to make impactful plays in the passing game. Pederson and Taylor are committed to evolving the offensive scheme to maximize Engram’s contributions and elevate the team’s overall performance.

Engram’s previous success with the New York Giants and his continued growth in the Jaguars’ system give him confidence heading into the 2024 season. With a strong supporting cast, a proven quarterback in Trevor Lawrence, and a coaching staff dedicated to his development, Engram is optimistic about his ability to deliver consistent performances year after year. He is determined to build on his past achievements and establish himself among the elite tight ends in the league.

Through introspection and critical analysis, Engram is poised to elevate his game and reach new heights in the upcoming season. With a clear vision of his goals and the support of his team, he is ready to make his mark as a dominant force in the NFL.
