The Chicago Cubs Make Roster Moves with Bellinger’s Return

The Chicago Cubs made a significant roster move by activating center fielder Cody Bellinger from the injured list. Bellinger, who has been sidelined with a rib injury since April, will be the designated hitter in the upcoming games against the San Diego Padres. However, it remains to be seen if he is fully ready to return to playing in the outfield. Bellinger himself admits that he is not at 100% yet and that it will take time to be fully pain-free. Despite this, he feels optimistic about his progress and is eager to contribute to the team’s success.

Impact on the Lineup

Bellinger’s return provides the Cubs with a boost, as he was hitting .226 with five home runs and a .760 OPS before his injury. While rookie Pete Crow-Armstrong has performed well in center field in Bellinger’s absence, the plan is to eventually move Bellinger back to his natural position. Manager Craig Counsell emphasizes the importance of having the best players in the lineup to maximize the team’s potential. With Bellinger back in the mix, the Cubs are taking a significant step in the right direction.

Roster Adjustments

In order to make room for Bellinger on the roster, outfielder Alexander Canario was optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Additionally, pitcher Daniel Palencia was placed on the injured list due to a shoulder issue. The team is currently awaiting MRI results to determine the severity of Palencia’s injury and the appropriate course of action. In the meantime, right-hander Keegan Thompson has been recalled from Triple-A to fill the void left by Palencia. Furthermore, right fielder Seiya Suzuki will begin a rehab assignment in Iowa before rejoining the Cubs in Pittsburgh. Suzuki has been out of action since April due to a right oblique injury suffered while running to first base.

The Chicago Cubs are making strategic roster moves to accommodate Bellinger’s return and address pitching issues. The team is hopeful that Bellinger’s presence will provide a much-needed spark to the lineup and contribute to their success on the field. The Cubs remain focused on maximizing their potential and putting forth their best team to compete at the highest level.
