Fabio Quartararo, the 2021 world champion, is facing an uncertain future in MotoGP as his current Yamaha contract comes to an end after the 2024 season. Despite Yamaha’s struggles in the 2023 season, including a winless campaign, Quartararo remains a highly sought-after rider in the market for 2025. He has already engaged in talks with other manufacturers about potentially switching teams.
Despite the swirling rumors and speculation about his future, Quartararo remains focused on his current season. Following a disappointing 11th-place finish at the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix, Quartararo acknowledged that Yamaha is facing challenges in keeping up with its rivals. However, he maintains that the contract negotiations are not a distraction for him while he is on the track.
“I’m not thinking about the contracts,” Quartararo stated. “It’s not a distraction for me. It’s information that I don’t have in my mind while I’m riding.” He emphasized that he is in a comfortable position and does not feel the same level of worry he experienced during his Moto2 days when his future was uncertain.
While Quartararo is in no rush to make a decision about his future, he assured that it will not be a prolonged process. “It will be soon,” he affirmed. “I will not spend months to take a decision. So, it will be quite quick and we will see.” This decisive approach reflects Quartararo’s determination to maintain focus on his current performance while also planning for the future.
Despite a challenging start to the 2024 season, Quartararo remains optimistic about the progress Yamaha is making in gathering data to enhance the performance of the YZR-M1. He acknowledges that the gap to other teams has widened but sees it as an opportunity for growth and development.
“We are not ready yet,” Quartararo admitted. “Even last year things weren’t going right but we had nothing really to test. But the mentality has totally changed even during the race weekend.” He remains committed to making incremental improvements and assisting the team in moving forward to compete for top positions in future races.
Yamaha’s plans for the upcoming season include conducting private tests following the Portugal Grand Prix to further refine the performance of their bikes. Quartararo’s future in MotoGP remains a topic of speculation, but his focus on his current performance and commitment to improvement demonstrate his dedication to success in the sport.
As the season progresses, Quartararo’s decision about his future team will undoubtedly impact the landscape of MotoGP. Fans and analysts alike will be eagerly awaiting his announcement and watching his continued performance on the track.
