In an unexpected move, the New York Mets have announced that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Adrian Houser and outfielder Tyrone Taylor from the Milwaukee Brewers. This trade marks the first transaction between the Mets and the Brewers since former Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns took over baseball operations with the Mets. The details of the trade reveal that the Mets sent minor league pitcher Coleman Crow to the Brewers in exchange for Houser and Taylor.
The Mets’ front office expressed their excitement about adding Houser and Taylor to their team. David Stearns, now with the Mets, released a statement saying, “We are thrilled to welcome Adrian and Tyrone to our organization. Tyrone brings a versatile skillset to our outfield and can excel in any of the three positions. Adrian, on the other hand, brings an established presence to our starting rotation and will undoubtedly provide valuable innings for us this coming season.”
Both Adrian Houser and Tyrone Taylor have spent their entire major league careers with the Milwaukee Brewers. Houser, who will be turning 31 on February 2nd, has recorded a 4.00 ERA with a 31-34 win-loss record in 129 appearances and 97 starts from 2015-2023. Last season, Houser appeared in 23 games, starting in 21 of them, and registered an 8-5 record with a 4.12 ERA and 96 strikeouts over 111 1/3 innings.
Taylor, who will be 30 on January 22nd, has a career batting average of .239, a .294 on-base percentage, 41 home runs, and 136 RBIs from 2019-2023 with the Brewers. In the 81 games he played last season, Taylor hit .234 with a .267 on-base percentage, 10 home runs, and 35 RBIs. Furthermore, Taylor boasts the ability to play all three outfield positions, providing the Mets with greater versatility.
It is worth noting that both Adrian Houser and Tyrone Taylor are eligible for arbitration. According to MLB Trade Rumors, Houser is projected to make $5.6 million, while Taylor is expected to earn $1.7 million. As the arbitration process commences, the Mets will strive to negotiate fair contracts for both players.
In exchange for Houser and Taylor, the Mets sent minor league pitcher Coleman Crow to the Brewers. Crow, just 23 years old, showcased his potential in the 2022 season with Rocket City, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels. He achieved a 2-0 record with an exceptional 1.88 ERA in four appearances. Before joining Rocket City, Crow posted a 9-3 record with a 4.85 ERA in 24 appearances. Unfortunately, Crow suffered a setback in his development as he underwent Tommy John surgery last summer after being acquired by the Mets from the Angels.
