Jake Hill, a 29-year-old British racing driver, has established himself as one of the most skilled and committed drivers in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). After finishing as the top-placed driver for Sunbury squad in both 2022 and 2023, Hill is set to continue his partnership with Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport for the 2024 season. With nine race wins and a pair of third-place finishes in the championship, Hill has proven his capabilities behind the wheel of his BMW 330e M Sport.
Laser Tools Racing, celebrating its 10th season in the BTCC in 2024, has developed a successful partnership with MB Motorsport. MB Motorsport is the company owned by Mark Blundell, a former Formula 1 racer and Le Mans 24 Hours winner. Hill and Blundell previously teamed up in the tin-top series in 2019 and have since maintained a strong working relationship. Hill’s BMW will once again run under the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport banner.
Hill will not only continue driving the ex-Oliphant BMW he has raced since 2022 but will also maintain his partnership with engineer Craig Porley. Porley has been an integral part of Hill’s success, working with him since his days at the AmD squad and during their one-year stint at Motorbase Performance in 2021. Hill emphasizes the importance of this partnership, stating, “I wouldn’t do it without my partner in crime. I love that bloke to bits, and we have a very good working relationship and friendship.”
Despite potential opportunities in GT3 competition, Hill is determined to continue his pursuit of victory in the BTCC. He expressed his desire to accomplish his goals in the championship before considering other racing ventures. Hill’s competitive drive and determination to succeed are evident as he stated, “I don’t want to leave the BTCC until we’ve set out what we accomplished to do, which is to win it, otherwise what would this all have been for?”
WSR supremo Dick Bennetts expressed his satisfaction with extending the partnership between Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport and WSR for another year. Bennetts praised Hill’s skills and commitment, highlighting his consistent race wins and podium finishes over the past two seasons. The team has high hopes for their collaboration in the upcoming season and believes they can achieve great success together.
In addition to Hill, WSR’s four-car line-up for the 2024 season is expected to feature their four-time champion Colin Turkington and Adam Morgan, who joined the team in 2023. However, Stephen Jelley’s three-year spell at the team seems to have come to an end, leaving an open seat for the upcoming season. Bennetts remained tight-lipped about the potential candidates, stating, “We’ve got four guys in the running, and that’s about all I can say at the moment.”
With Hill’s continued partnership with Laser Tools Racing and MB Motorsport, his strong working relationship with engineer Craig Porley, and his determination to win the BTCC, the 2024 season holds great promise for Jake Hill and his team.
