Kraft’s own emotions have been affected by the team’s poor performance this season. In an interview with “Patriots All-Access,” he admitted that the losing season had taken a toll on him. He expressed relief and happiness after the team ended their five-game losing streak with a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 7.
On Monday, rumors surfaced suggesting that the Patriots and Belichick would part ways after the 2023 season. Anonymous sources reported that this decision was made following the team’s loss to the Colts in Frankfurt, Germany on November 12. These rumors prompted numerous questions to Belichick during his media availability, but he consistently redirected the focus to the upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Despite the team’s struggles this season, Belichick’s legacy as a coach is undeniable. With a tenure of 24 years, he holds the longest head coaching tenure in the NFL. He has also led the Patriots to six Super Bowl championships, joining the ranks of George Halas and Curly Lambeau as the only coaches to achieve this feat. Additionally, Belichick’s 332 total victories (regular season and playoffs) rank him second all-time behind Don Shula.
In a previous interview, Kraft expressed his desire for Belichick to break Shula’s record and become the winningest coach in NFL history. However, he made it clear that individual stats are not the focus; winning is the ultimate goal. As the owner, Kraft wants to do whatever it takes to bring the team back to a winning position.
