An Exciting New Era for Arizona Coyotes Broadcasting

In a groundbreaking move, the Arizona Coyotes have inked a four-year deal with Scripps Sports, becoming the second NHL team to broadcast games over the air. With this partnership, Scripps will reach approximately 3 million viewers in Arizona and Utah, amplifying the team’s exposure and cultivating a larger fan base. The announcement of this collaboration marks a significant shift for the Coyotes, who have always strived to connect with their loyal supporters and attract new enthusiasts, especially as they build an exciting, young team.

Coyotes President and CEO, Xavier Gutierrez, acknowledged the challenges faced by the team under the regional sports model. The shrinking number of households that had access to Coyotes games posed a significant obstacle to their growth and outreach efforts. However, this new broadcasting deal with Scripps Sports addresses this issue head-on, offering an opportunity to super-serve their fan base and capture the attention of potential supporters. By expanding their reach through over-the-air broadcasts, the Coyotes are taking a bold step in broadening their horizons and securing a more substantial presence in the market.

The agreement with Scripps Sports comes just one day after Diamond Sports Net Arizona decided to terminate its telecast rights agreement with the Coyotes. Diamond Sports has faced financial challenges, being in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings since March. The Coyotes, following in the footsteps of the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks, sought an alternative broadcasting option. With the deal, they became the third major Arizona sports franchise to break away from Diamond and Bally Sports Arizona.

The majority of Coyotes games will now be available on the Antenna TV network through KNXV.2, channel 15.2 with an antenna, and on Cox cable. This enhanced accessibility ensures that fans across Arizona and Utah can easily tune in to support their beloved team. The Coyotes’ broadcast team will remain intact, delivering the same exceptional quality of coverage, including comprehensive pregame and postgame analysis. In addition, the team is actively exploring a streaming option, allowing fans to enjoy the games even when they are on the go.

Amidst the ongoing disruptions in the media landscape, the Arizona Coyotes were determined to secure a broadcasting solution that would provide stability and visibility. Gutierrez expressed concerns about the Suns and Diamondbacks finding alternative broadcasting options, leaving the Coyotes as the last team under contract with Bally Sports. However, the partnership with Scripps Sports alleviates those concerns and ensures that Coyotes games will continue to be readily available to viewers throughout the market.

As the Coyotes gear up for the upcoming season, which kicks off on October 13th against the New Jersey Devils, they do so with newfound optimism and a revitalized broadcasting strategy. This collaboration with Scripps Sports signifies a turning point for the team, providing a solid foundation for increasing their fan base, captivating audiences, and establishing a robust presence in Arizona and Utah. The Coyotes are ready to embrace this exciting new era and are set to make waves on and off the ice.
